Nelson Connect with History for the Australian Curriculum Year 8 is the second book in the Nelson Connect with History series that addresses the new Junior National History Curriculum. It is to be viewed as a whole package that includes both book and digital resources. The student book is structured to facilitate world history pedagogy and reflects the mechanics of the Junior History Curriculum.

The Year 8 text covers the period from the end of the ancient period to the beginning of the modern period (c.650CE– c.1750). Students will develop knowledge and understanding within the framework of the key inquiry questions and of the social, economic, religious and political beliefs of the major civilisations around the world during a period when the world came into contact with each other.

Nelson Connect with History Year 8 continually makes links between the overview content of this period, providing the broad patterns of historical change and the more detailed and specific depth studies of individual societies/empires and the significant developments within. The ‘big picture’ overview of the ancient to the modern world provides an expansive chronology that begins with the transformation of the Roman empire and the spread of Christianity and Islam, the emergence of the medieval world and with it the key beliefs and values of societies, voyages of discovery and contact with other civilisations and ends with the emergence of new ideas about the world and the place of people within it. It will also serve to consolidate understanding of the historical period after a more detailed study in the various depth studies. The visual timelines used throughout the book will be highly effective in illustrating these points.
