New Biology Study Design

Updates to the new Biology Study Design for implementation in 2022.

The VCAA will be implementing the new VCE Biology Study Design in 2022. The changes were due to commence at the beginning of 2021 for all VCE students, however, due to Covid 19, this was delayed by 12 months. This year there will be even more publications available as Oxford and Cambridge will be publishing for Biology, while Jacaranda, Nelson and Pearson will be updating their editions. This is good news for teachers as they now have access a wider pool of sources. Most resources should be available by mid-year and so teachers can prepare for 2022 well in advance.

Changes to the VCAA VCE Biology Study Design affect all aspects of teaching and learning – new key knowledge, new course structure and a new approach to assessment. VCE Biology is evolving to help students develop 21st- century inquiry, scientific and problem-solving skills, alongside a clear understanding of ethical approaches and concepts. These abilities allow students to communicate from an informed position and equip them for success.
