Want to engage students in fun activities for Design and Technologies? LAPtek have released new titles for both the Australian and Victorian Curriculums where students can learn how to build a pet, make a rocket car or produce a sustainable garden. There is a unique unit to peak students’ interests in these new titles. Below is a snapshot of some of the range.
Design and Make a Pet
Did you know you could make your own pet? In this unit, students use a PICAXE 08M2 microcontroller to design and manufacture a pet with flashing eyes and a voice. The pet will also be able to respond to touch and be able to tell if it is light or dark. How cool?!
Make a Robot Using Picaxe
Did you know a robot is a machine that performs tasks automatically? They can be a ‘simple’ robot machine that perform 1 or 2 tasks or a ‘smart’ robot that can move around, sense their environment and understand code. Students will learn to analyse how motion, force and energy are used to control electromechanical systems when creating simple, engineered solutions.
Rockets and Rocket Cars
Rockets, cars and aeronautics! Make a model rocket that mimics a version of a real space vehicle. In this unit, students design and build a solid fuel rocket by researching the laws of flight. They use the knowledge gained to design and build a rocket car using the Inventor software package and a Roland mill to manufacture their design.
Sustainable Me
‘Sustainability’ is not just a buzz word. Getting students involved from an early age will be a game changer in how the world adapts to living more sustainably. In ‘Sustainable Me’ students learn about the challenges and benefits of producing healthy food in sustainable ways and gain knowledge that can really effect change.
