This book presents the universal and multifaceted theme of love as depicted in art from many different cultures and eras. Such works abound in the Louvre's diverse collection, ranging from classical examples such as Nicostratos' sculpture Couple on their Wedding Night to more modern works such as Fragonard's The Lock. The selected works also present a variety of scenes ranging from the first seeds of romance to sensual and passionate intrigues. About the Author
Jean Claude Bologne is a historian and professor of medieval iconography at ICART in Paris. He has published two dozen works of fiction, dictionaries, and non-fiction, and was awarded a literary prize by the Academie Fran??aise in 1986 (Prix Th?roigne). Elisa de Halleux has a doctorate in Art History and published a book on Renaissance iconography. She lectures frequently in France and the United Kingdom.
