Preliminary activities make the texts accessible
Oral activities, such as drama, role play and discussion, enable students of all abilities to engage with the issues underlying a text before dealing with matters of language. This method also allows inexperienced students to access complex texts in digestible forms.
Written activities allow for differentiation
The activities move from oral to written work, and become progressively wider in scope and more demanding. In this way, the study of literature can be made academically challenging and highly motivating for more advanced students while remaining accessible to the whole class.
